Mike Aulby swept aside four opponents to open the Summer Tour, topping leading qualifier Mark Baker in the championship finale, 210-159. The Denver victory, Aulby's 10th, was almost a repeat of the 1984 Fall Tour event at Indianapolis, where Aulby, seeded third in the televised finale, bested Baker, who again was the leading qualifier. "I got all the breaks and the rest of the guys just didn't get any," Aulby said, referring to his first two opponents, Joe Salvemini, whom he buried, 255-199, and Tom Crites, who fell by a 269-187 count. It got tougher after that but, like Salvemini and Crites, Mike Edwards couldn't muster a 200 game against the Hoosier and went down to defeat, 204-192. Baker, a husky Californian looking for a second PBA title, stayed close in the early going of the title match, then disaster struck in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames, when he split, missed and split again.
