Dave Husted, making his fifth championship-round appearance since winning the BPAA U.S. Open, concluded the Summer Tour on a high note, holding off Marshall Holman, 214-193, to win the $95,000 Sarasota Open. Husted finished with a strike in the ninth frame and a pair in the 10th, including a fortunate 2-pin trip on a rebound off the sideboard. This forced Holman, looking for his first title in 17 months, to strike on his first ball in the final frame to outscore Husted. Holman anticipated a strike after releasing the game-deciding shot, but the ball deflected slightly on a light pocket hit, leaving a wobbling and re-positioned 5-pin along with the 7. Holman had broken a 10-game TV finals losing streak the match before, tossing a double in the 10th frame to defeat Dave Giles, 204-194.
