Staging an incredible rally in the final block of match play, Earl Anthony swept to victory in the $60,000 Buzz Fazio Open. The championship, his 26th, put him all alone atop the standings in PBA career titles. He had gone into the tournament knotted with Dick Weber and Don Johnson. With seven games remaining Monday evening, the 37-year-old was mired in fifth place, trailing leader Butch Soper, Huntington Beach, Calif., by 359 pins. Victory seemed out of the question. Anthony dropped his first match, then toppled six straight opponents on games of 248-227-247-226-228 and 245, to go into the final game of the tournament only six pins behind Soper. Anthony won that contest, too, by a 222-192 count, to show a 54-stick margin at the end. 42-GAME TOTALS | | | Name, City/State | | Pins | | WLT | | + | | Tot | | Amt | | | 1 | | Earl Anthony, Tacoma, Wash. | | 9067 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9517 | | $6,000 | | 2 | | Butch Soper, Huntington Beach, Calif. | | 8998 | | 15-8-1 | | 465 | | 9463 | | 3,500 | | 3 | | Mark Roth, Staten Island, N.Y. | | 8887 | | 15-9-0 | | 450 | | 9337 | | 3,000 | | 4 | | Dave Frame, Baldwin Park, Calif. | | 8795 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9215 | | 2,500 | | 5 | | Jim Certain, Huntsville, Ala. | | 8718 | | 16-7-1 | | 495 | | 9213 | | 2,000 | | 6 | | Carmen Salvino, Chicago, Ill. | | 8744 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9164 | | 1,800 | | 7 | | Nelson Burton Jr., St. Louis, Mo. | | 8734 | | 14-10-0 | | 420 | | 9154 | | 1,600 | | 8 | | Ed Ressler Jr., Allentown, Pa. | | 8711 | | 13-11-0 | | 390 | | 9101 | | 1,400 | | 9 | | Sam Guarino, E.
