Firestone was instrumental in approving sponsorship of the prestigious Firestone Tournament of Champions in 1965. Not only did Firestone's involvement pave the way for additional corporate giants to lend their names toward sponsorship of the embryonic PBA, but he personally endorsed the T of C's landmark $100,000 purse, the first in the history of the sport.
