Personal: Kenneth Richard Simard… Resides in Greenville, S.C… First job was as a lane attendant… Lists “making people laugh” as his best non-athletic talent… Biggest fear is not being known as a great bowler… Superstitions include finding heads-up pennies and wearing the same outfits when he bowls… If he could have a career other than bowling it would be in the Air Force.
2007-08: In his first season as an exempt bowler, Simard came on strong late and held on to regain his exemption for the 2008-09 season… Set career highs in every statistical category in his first full season on Tour, making nine match play appearances, one championship round appearance and racking up $45,956 in earnings, more than his previous eight seasons on Tour combined… Started strong by making match play in three of the first four events, highlighted by a 12th-place finish in the Lake County Indiana Classic… Missed match play in four consecutive events before finishing 12th again to start the second half in the ConstructionJobs.com Championship, which started a string of three straight match play appearances and five of six… After finishing just 112th in the Denny’s World Championship, Simard fell to 41st in the PBA World Point Rankings with four events remaining… Produced his best career finish in a PBA Tour event the next week to jump into the cut when he finished second in the Don Johnson Buckeye State Classic… Defeated Wes Malott, 237-226, in the semifinals to put himself one win away from his first title, but he ran into Chris Barnes, the eventual PBA Player of the Year; Simard had a chance to win the title with three strikes in the 10th frame, but after a strike with his first shot in the 10th he left the 3-10 split… Still, the runner-up showing pushed him to 31st in the PBA World Point Rankings… Missed match play in the final three events which put him in jeopardy of dropping out of the cut, be he had just enough points to squeak by in 38th.
